Dr Jo Steer is a Chartered Clinical Psychologist with over 20 years of experience specialising in ADHD and autism assessments, particularly for women, girls, and families. Based in Reigate, Surrey, Dr Steer is also a published author of books providing practical strategies and insights on neurodevelopmental conditions.
Professional Qualifications
Dr Steer holds a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the University of Surrey (2004) and BSc (Hons) in Psychology from the University of Kent. She is:
- Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a Practitioner Psychologist
- Holds British Psychological Society Chartered Status
- Accredited by the BABCP as a Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist

Assessment Process
The assessment process begins with screening questionnaires completed by parents, the child/young person, and their school or college. The questionnaires screen for Autism, ADHD, and mental health difficulties. The diagnostic assessment is completed in three parts including:
- Play-based observation at the Reigate clinic using the ADOS (Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule)
- Structured play providing insights into social communication, interaction, and behaviours
- Feedback session to discuss results and provide tailored recommendations
